It has been brought to our attention that there is a possible investment scam being offered by a group of third-party individuals. The third-party individuals, unrelated to Kenanga Investors Berhad (“Kenanga Investors”) and/or its subsidiaries (collectively, “Kenanga Investors Group”), have been using the name and logo of Eq8 Capital Sdn Bhd (“Eq8”), a subsidiary of Kenanga Investors to promote illegal or unlicensed investment schemes through the WhatsApp application.

The method of operation includes ‘promising’ investors a guaranteed rate of return and requesting personal details to complete the transaction(s). The illegal or unlicensed investment schemes use Eq8’s name, logo, images and company information to convince victims of their legitimacy.

Kenanga Investors Group wishes to clarify that all authorised agents and/or employees are not allowed to accept cash or cash deposits from investors. All payments relating to investments, either through transfer of monies or issuance of cheques, should be done directly to Kenanga Investors’ account and not to the authorised agents or any other individual’s account.

Kenanga Investors Group has reported this matter to the relevant regulators and authorities for further investigation.

Kenanga Investors Group also wishes to remind investors to be more vigilant and to verify investment schemes through the following resources offered by the Securities Commission Malaysia at the SC’s website before investing:

2. List of entities/individuals licensed/registered with SC (https://www.sc.com.my/regulation/licensing/licensed-and-registered-persons)

Members of the public may also conduct online verification checks at the Federation of Investment Managers Malaysia ("FIMM")'s website (https://www.fimm.com.my/search/) to verify whether individuals they are dealing with are registered with FIMM as Consultants.
